International Conference on Cognitive Decline and Its Economic Consequences

It is postulated that cognitive decline in older people will become more prevalent with the ageing of society, causing enormous economic impact--for example, in terms of labor issues, there will be a greater need to secure care workers while more family members of people who need care are leaving their jobs; regarding financial issues, there will be more asset holders who will have difficulty conducting financial transactions; and there will be an impact on the consumer market with the increase of older people with difficulties using complicated products such as automobiles, household appliances, and communication devices. To address these issues, the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Ageing has decided to hold a series of international symposiums in Tokyo, London, and San Francisco (Palo Alto) in collaboration with higher education institutions and other organizations in each city. To kick off the project, the first symposium will be held this year in Tokyo cohosted with Keio University. For this symposium, Keio University has established a dedicated Program Committee and has decided to firstly focus on the medical aspects of cognitive decline, and upon furthering our understanding in this field, will investigate the impact of cognitive decline from the perspective of the economy and financial sectors.

*The conference will be conducted in English and is open to the general public. Simultaneous interpretation from English into Japanese will be available.
